Popular comedy classic "Cuihua" will return to the Beijing stage with modern elements hoping to attract a new generation of theatergoers. Hip-hop, magic and opera have been integrated into the new edition with the ending reworked to be more moving, according to playwright Yu Baimei.
Actor Deng Chao, who starred in the original version eight years ago, will appear again, promising to present a very different interpretation than he did in 2001.
Actresses Qu Ying and Dai Lele, as well as TV host Fang Qiong, will also perform in the new version.
The play centers on the lives of three people sharing a tiny apartment, exploring their comedic interactions and experiences.
