Brittany Murphy, the American actress who rose to fame in the Oscar-winning film "8 Mile", died on Sunday in Los Angeles. She was 32.
The Associated Press reports that Murphy was pronounced dead at a medical center in Los Angeles and that police have opened an investigation into the actress' sudden death. A hospital spokeswoman didn't provide details on the possible cause of death.
Born in 1977, Murphy started her acting career in the early 1990s with small roles. She was best known in productions such as "Girl, Interrupted", "Clueless", and "Sin City".
In 2002, she starred in "8 Mile," a semi-autobiographical story of superstar rapper Eminem. In the film, Murphy acted along with Eminem, playing his love interest. Murphy told the Associated Press in 2003 that her role in the film led to more recognition.
