The espionage film The Message starring Chinese actresses Li Bingbing and Zhou Xun will be adapted into TV series after Chinese Lunar New Year, which ends on February 28, Beijing Youth Daily reported on February 9.

The 30-part serial will develop a longer story than the novel which the film was based on. There will be a different ending in the fictional spy war, inspired by the murder mystery game, which involves working out who has killed the others. Set during the "Anti-Japanese War" (1937-1945), The Message unveils the lives of the secret agents who fought each other to fulfill their own objectives.

The TV series' studio is in the process of selecting two leading actresses to play the main parts in the story. Li Bingbing, who won the Golden Horse Award for her performance in the film, said she wouldn't mind playing the same role in the TV series if she has time.

The Message's director, Chen Kuo-Fu, highly commended the television adaptation, saying: "The story is modern, fast-paced and highly interesting. The revised version is a significantly different to the novel."
