According to a report on m1905.com, the director denied such reports that the film had failed to pass the examination of the film bureau due to some inappropriate comments made by one of its actors, Han Han. He explained that they postponed a press release for the film because most of the dialogues in the film were in the Shanghai dialect, and they have to translate them into Mandarin and English, which is incredibly time-consuming.
"I Wish I Knew" reviewed the contemporary history of Shanghai through 18 people's real stories. The narrators include a famous artist and a writer, as well as some ordinary people.
The film was selected to compete for the Un Certain Regard prize at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
