Actor Mark Wahlberg has been offered the lead role in a remake of the 1994 thriller "The Crow", Digitalspy.co.uk reports.

Wahlberg is the top choice to play the brutally murdered man who comes back to life on a revenge mission.

Director Stephen Norrington earlier described his take on James O'Barr's comic book character as "realistic, hard-edged and mysterious."

In the original, the role was portrayed by Bruce Lee's son Brandon, who died in an accident while filming. Director Alex Proyas later completed the film using special effects as a tribute to Lee.
