Award-winning cinematographer Christopher Doyle is working with rock star-turned director Cui Jian for the latter's feature-length debut, "The Blue Bone" ("Lanse Gutou"), Sina.com.cn reports.
Australian-born, Asian-based Doyle is the cameraman behind a long list of Chinese films, including Wong Kar-Wai's "In the Mood for Love" ("Hua Yang Nian Hua") and "2046", and Zhang Yimou's "Hero" ("Ying Xiong"). He has received honors in Cannes and Venice.
Doyle on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 told reporters in Beijing that he viewed Cui Jian's film as "very rock, sexy and with power."
The film is about the love stories between a veteran rocker and a little-known singer.
Cui Jian, the celebrated "Godfather of Chinese rock music", names the film after one of his hit songs. He gave an ambiguous description of his current project, "[The film is about] one song, two generations, three stories, and four styles."
Filming is underway in Beijing with its cast including Huang Xuan ("Driverless") and Ni Hongjie ("My Own Swordsman"). Veteran singer Mao Amin will make a cameo appearance in the film.
