Actress Penelope Cruz enshrined on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Penelope Cruz was honored with a dedication of a star on the renowned Hollywood Walk of Fame here Friday, becoming the first Spanish actress to be enshrined on the famous spot.

The Academy Award-winning actress received a star at a late-morning ceremony held in front of the El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

She was joined by Johnny Depp, her co-star of "Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" whom she also starred opposite in 2001's biopic "Blow."

"Every time I look at that star I will see the names of all the people that have helped me make many of my dreams a reality," Cruz said and went on to thank Pedro Almodovar, her countryman who directed her in "Live Flesh" and "All About My Mother," and Woody Allen, director in Cruz's Oscar-winning role in "Vicky Cristina Barcelona."

Cruz also thanked Depp, saying: "In the last 10 years I have worked with him twice and that has improved my English, so now I know how to say, 'I want to work with Johnny Depp again!' "

Depp, who stopped by the ceremony to say a few words about the Oscar winner, called Cruz "a magnificent and magical woman," an "inconceivably phenomenal mommy" and "as loyal and true a friend as anyone could dream of."

Born April 28, 1974, near Madrid, Spain,the daughter of a hairdresser made her acting debut in Spanish television when she was 16.

In 1992, Cruz made her feature film debut as the lead female role in the comedy drama art house film, "Jamon, jamon," playing a young woman who is expecting her first child with a man whose mother does not approve of the marriage.

In 1998, Cruz appeared in her first American film in Stephen Frears' western, "The Hi-Lo Country."

Cruz, 36, received the first of her three Academy Award nominations for her role in the 2006 comedy "Volver," which is directed by Almodovar.

In 2009, Cruz won an Academy Award for her supporting role in "Vicki Cristina Barcelona," a romantic comedy-drama film about an artist's encounter with two America women.
