A total of 62 Chinese films, including director Feng Xiaogang's high-grossing comedy If You Are the One II, have been selected for an official screening program in hopes of accessing overseas markets.
This year's "Beijing Screenings," an event scheduled to run from April 23 to 26, will host more than 150 overseas guests from the film industry. The guests will attend screenings of films ranging from commercial blockbusters to small-budget projects, according to a statement released Wednesday by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), the event's organizer.
Selected films include My Own Swordsman, a theatrical sequel to a popular Chinese TV comedy series with the same title, and The Floating Shadow, a critically-acclaimed art film by emerging director Jia Dongshuo.
The Floating Shadow, a dark psychological drama about a young woman in prison, won the awards for Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress at the China Image Film Festival, a London-based international film festival for Chinese-language movies.
According to the organizing committee, overseas guests include buyers, distributors, producers, investors, critics, festival programmers, film experts and officials from over 20 countries and regions, such as the United States, France, the United Kingdom and the Republic of Korea.
"Beijing Screenings," first held in 1996, is a key official event promoting Chinese films in overseas markets. Since then, the event has brought hundreds of Chinese films to cinemas in over 80 foreign countries and regions.
