Robert De Niro has had a prolific career in motion pictures, staring in such films as Michael Cimino’s "The Deer Hunter" (1978), Penny Marshall’s "Awakenings" (1990), Michael Mann’s "Heat" (1995), and the "Meet the Parents" series. He has paired with director Martin Scorsese on eight films including, "Mean Streets" (1973), "Taxi Driver" (1976), "Raging Bull" (1980), "Goodfellas" (1990) and "Cape Fear" (1991). In 1993 he directed his first film, "A Bronx Tale"; later he returned to directing for "The Good Shepherd" in 2006. He has won Oscars for "The Godfather: Part II" (1974) and for his portrayal of Jake La Motta in "Raging Bull" (1980). In the late 1980’s he co-founded Tribeca Productions and in 2002, as a response to 9/11, he co-founded the Tribeca Film Festival. The festival has become an annual celebration of film, music and culture that has helped bring life back to Lower Manhattan. Honored with the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors in 2009, he also received BAFTA’s Stanley Kubrick Award the same year. In 2011 HFPA honored him with the Cecil B. DeMille Award for his lifetime achievements in film. Recently, he has acted in the Italian language film, Manuale d’amore 3 (2011) and Neil Burger’s Limitless (2011).
