Director Jacob Cheung's romantic fantasy film "Rest on Your Shoulder" is among the three Chinese films to compete for the top honor at this month's Shanghai International Film Festival.

Tang Lijun, the festival's general manager, announced via her microblog that the film would join Han Jie's "Mr. Tree" and Zhang Ming's "The Young Man Sings Folk Songs in the Opposite Door" in the competition for the Golden Goblet award.

"Rest on Your Shoulder", the most commercial of the three Chinese nominees, stars A-listers Chen Kun, Jiang Yiyan, Gigi Leung and Kwai Lun-mei. It tells the story of a young woman who sacrifices her human form to become a butterfly and save her fiancé's life. The film is slated for release in cinemas this month.

The other 13 foreign-language nominees are productions or co-productions from countries including Argentina, Portugal, Italy, Japan and the United States.

Oscar-winning American director Barry Levinson will lead six judges to decide the winners.

The 14th Shanghai International Film Festival will run from June 11 to 19. Winners will be announced at the closing ceremony.
