Comedian Zhao Benshan denies immigration rumor

Zhao Benshan, the famous Chinese sitcom actor, has denied that he would become a Canadian citizen.
A rumor has been proliferating recently on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging service, that Zhao had been approved for naturalization in Canada with his family last month. According to the gossip, Zhao will relocate to Toronto, aiming to get his apprentice Xiao Shenyang naturalized as well.
Most netizens doubted whether Zhao will find an audience abroad for his distinctly Chinese brand of humor.
Liu Shuangping, art director of Zhao's production company Benmountain Media Group, quickly shot down the rumors.
"This is an old rumor and not the first time it's been spread by netizens," he said.
