Rising director Zhang Meng brought his new film "Piano in a Factory" and cast members Qin Hailu, Wang Qianyuan to the "Movie Channel Media Awards" which are screening during the ongoing Shanghai International Film Festival(SIFF), sina.com reports.
The team had a face to face with media groups and movie fans on Tuesday and shared the difficulties they went through during the shooting of the film.
Director Zhang recalled how hard it was for the budget-stressed film to become what it is today. It got accomplished with the financial support of SIFF and from his good friend Qin Hailu, who is also the film's female lead.
Overwhelming positive feedback from previously limited screenings have made it a sought-after film at the festival.
The film revolves around a steel piano being constructed by a recently laid-off father. He attempts to make the piano in order to please his daughter and win custody rights from his divorced wife.
The story is set against the backdrop of a desolate industrial centre in northeast China during the 1990s and involves a group of characters who struggle through that transformative period.
Wang Qianyuan, the male lead, said on Tuesday that he didn't consider the film to purely be an art house movie, saying that it integrated many funny elements like slapstick and musical.
Wang was crowned best actor for the film at the 23rd Tokyo International Film Festival.
Despite the sizzling public anticipation, it has not yet been settled as to when "Piano in a Factory" will hit cinemas. The release date was initially planned for early July.
