About 50 ink and wash paintings are on display, depicting mountains, water, figures, birds and flowers. "These paintings are richer and newer both in content and style compared to exhibitions before," the museum said in a statement.

Ink and wash painting originated in China and was transmitted to Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868) and became Nan-style painting. Today, ink and wash and Nan-style paintings are viewed as representatives of Eastern culture and have become bridges for Sino-Japanese cultural exchanges.

The exhibition lasts until Friday, Oct. 14.
