Entitled "The Infinite World: Zhang Daqian's Life and Personal Charisma as an Artist," the exhibition is more comprehensive than another exhibition of his works held a decade ago.
Two hundred of Zhang's works, including paintings, calligraphies and letters, are on display. The works feature landscapes, figures, flowers and birds and also traditional Chinese realistic and free-style paintings.
The works come from the collections of the Capital Museum, Sichuan Museum, Jilin Provincial Museum, Tianjin Museum and Zhang's two children.
The museum will also hold a series of cultural events, including lectures by researchers and art critics specializing in Zhang at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University, China Institute of Art and Sichuan School of Art.
The exhibition will be open to the public until the end of December. Admission is free.
Born in 1899, Zhang was one of the best-known and most prodigious Chinese artists of the 20th century. He died in 1983.
