Wrekin Hill Entertainment and Row 1 Entertainment will join hands in assuming the distribution rights for Chinese director Zhang Yimou's new film "The Flowers of War" in North America.

The film, starring Christian Bale, is slated to be screened in North America at the end of December, according to a report from Mtime.com.

Since the Toronto International Film Festival in September, the production team behind the film claimed on several occasions that they were approaching distribution companies, including Universal Pictures and 20th Century Fox, in a bid to sell the distribution rights.

"The Flowers of War" has been shortlisted for the Best Foreign Language Film competition at the Oscars. If the film can hit American screens during the Oscars nomination period, it will also be able to compete for various other awards.

The film is expected to hit Chinese cinema screens on December 16, and will hold premieres in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
