The 500th episode of "the Simpsons" has aired in the US.

The milestone episode saw the cartoon family exiled to a community of outsiders where they met Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

Assange apparently recorded his lines from the UK, where he is fighting extradition to Sweden.

Now in its 23rd season, "The Simpson" is the longest running prime-time scripted program on US TV.

And it's been contracted to run for another two seasons with creator Matt Groening saying the writers still have plenty of stories to tell.
