"Avatar" director James Cameron and 3-D photography guru Vince Pace's company has announced that it will set up a China headquarters in the city of Tianjin, a move to promote 3-D technologies among Chinese filmmakers, broadcasters and game designers.

Cameron, who was in China for the 2nd Beijing International Film Festival that kicked off on April 23, signed a cooperation deal for Cameron Pace Group with representatives from Tianjin Binhai New District and Tianjin North Film Group.

Cameron and Pace led the creation of the 2009 3-D sci-fi blockbuster "Avatar," which grossed nearly 2.8 billion U.S. dollars at the global box office.

The group, a leader in 3-D technology and production services, aims to advance the future of 3-D technology through the development of products, solutions and creative tools for use across all media channels.

Cameron said he is confident China will become the world's top user of 3-D technologies as it is now the world's largest film market.

Cameron said he will bring the most advanced 3-D technologies to China and work with local partners to fast-track the application of the technologies.

Other details regarding the group's China headquarters were not immediately available.
