The highly-anticipated film "Cloud Atlas" is poised to throw "Skyfall" from its seat at the top of Chinese mainland box office when it debuts on Thursday, January 31, 2013, online polls have shown.
"Cloud Atlas" had attracted more than 8,300 votes at Mtime.com and another 1,800 at M1905.com as of Wednesday morning, making it the most anticipated film among Chinese moviegoers.
After debuting on January 21 in the Chinese mainland, "Skyfall", the latest installment in the James Bond series, came out on top in the week ending January 27. It raked in about 224 million yuan (about US$36 million) in Chinese theaters, accounting for more than 56 percent of ticket sales that week.
The domestic cartoon hit "Pleasant Goat and the Big, Big Wolf" came in behind "Skyfall" with 63 million yuan, while "Bring Happiness Home", a domestic comedy, came in third with 43 million yuan.
