A Film Carnival has been launched ahead of the 3rd annual Beijing International Film Festival.

The opening ceremony got underway at the Temple of Heaven on Tuesday evening.

This year's festival is adding a competitive section with over a dozen domestic and foreign films vying for the so-called Tiantan Award.

Over the course of next week, over 260-films from around the world and China will be screened in more than 20-theaters in the capital.

Wang Hui is a spokesperson from the organizing committee.

"This year, the film festival is characterized with both high quality and low price. We have invited many movies with high quality and high cast jury team to take part in the festival. But the ticket price of the movie is very low. And we will hold many events that are close to people's life."

Cinema classic "Lawrence of Arabia" and all eight Harry Potter films was screened during the festival.

The event ends next Tuesday.
