Hooper, who won the Oscar for Best Director in 2011 for his film "The King's Speech", said he was touched and honored to serve as the jury president in Shanghai.
"I am delighted to accept this invitation and am very much looking forward to my stay in Shanghai and participating in this year's festival," the 40-year-old director was quoted by The Hollywood Reporter as saying.
A selection of Hooper's films will be screened as part of the festival's "Tribute to Masters" section.
Hooper will lead six other jury members to decide the winners of the Golden Goblet Awards at the festival. The other members of the jury have yet to be announced.
The annual Shanghai International Film Festival, which will have its 16th edition this year, has had a number of world-renowned filmmakers serve as its jury president. They include Luc Besson, Danny Boyle, Barry Levinson, Jean-Jacques Annaud, Wong Kar-wai, John Woo and Chen Kaige.
