The Hollywood animated movie "The Croods", which was supposed to appear on Chinese big screens until June 24, was dramatically stopped on June 6, due to "contract reasons," according to theaters.

This is the second incident within the last two months, after the sudden suspension of Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" for unspecified technique reasons, on April 11, date of the premiere, by the movie's importerChina Film Group Corp.
The movie finally returned to Chinese big screens on May 12 after some small changes. It is reported that the new edition is three minutes shorter than the previous one, with the omission of some nude scenes. .
"The Croods", which was released on April 20 in Chinese mainland, made 392 million yuan (US$63.8 million) at the box office before it was pulled from the theaters on June 6 at midnight.
Dreamworks and China Film Group Corp, the film's importer, refused to comment on the issue.
But insiders told Sohu.com that "extended screening period" might be the reason behind the abrupt suspension. The anonymous sources said that some domestic animation producers had lodged a complaint with theState Administration of Radio, Film and Television, the supervisory body of the film industry in China, for amonthlong promotion of "The Croods".
The manager of a theater said that tickets booked until June 7 are eligible for refunds, which makes the cinema incur losses. With the Dragon Boat Festival around the corner, cinemas have to arrange for other films.
