Angelina Jolie, three others to receive honorary Oscars

Oscar-winning U.S. actress Angelina Jolie will receive a special Academy Award in honor of her humanitarian work, while three others in Hollywood will earn honorary Oscars for lifetime achievement, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Thursday.
Jolie will be honored with Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, an Oscar statuette given to an "individual in the motion picture industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry." The actress/director, who won an Oscar for her supporting performance in "Girl, Interrupted," has been a strong advocate for humanitarian causes.
An vehement activist, Jolie has worked for a number of global advocacy groups and causes, serving as a special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in 2012.
She is the only one among the four honorees that have ever won a competitive Oscar. "The Governors Awards pay tribute to individuals who've made indelible contributions in their respective fields," Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said. " We couldn't be more excited for this year's honorees and look forward to bringing their peers and colleagues together to celebrate their extraordinary achievements."
The other three recipients all have longtime associations with the Academy in various capacities.
Actress Angela Lansbury, actor Steve Martin and costume designer Piero Tosi will receive honorary Oscars for lifetime achievement.
Lansbury has won three Academy Award nominations for her supporting performances in "Gaslight," "The Picture of Dorian Gray " and "The Manchurian Candidate."
Martin is a three-time host of the Oscars, most recently appearing in 2010 with Alec Baldwin.
Tosi is a veteran costume designer who received five Oscar nominations for such films as "Death in Venice," "La Cage aux Folles" and "La Traviata."
The four honorees will receive their awards at the Academy's fifth Annual Governors Awards on Nov. 16 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Hollywood & Highland Center.
