Kenya is set to host an international tax conference from Monday to seek ways of fighting tax fraud and encouraging international cooperation.
The four-day Technical Tax Conference, whose theme is Prevention and Control of Tax Evasion, will bring together 38 tax administrators from across the world, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), which is hosting the event, said on Sunday.
"Heads of other independent tax bodies including Commonwealth Association of Tax Administrators, African Tax Administration Forum, World Customs Organization among other are also already in the country for the conference," KRA said.
The conference also brings together members of the Inter- American Center of Tax Administrations (CIAT), whose majority are from Central, South and North America as well as members from other continents.
CIAT supports the efforts of national governments by promoting the evolution, social acceptance and institutional strengthening of tax administrations.
CIAT currently has 38 member countries and associate member countries from four continents: 31 countries of the Americas, five European countries, one African country and one Asian country. India is an associate member.
"Firmly committed to achieving measurable results, CIAT promotes values including integrity, transparency and ethics in an effort to prevent and combat all forms of tax fraud, evasion and avoidance and to facilitate voluntary compliance," KRA said.
It also promotes mutual assistance and cooperation among member countries by developing specialized technical assistance programs based on the particular needs and interests expressed by member countries.
