The drama film "American Dreams in China" became the biggest winner Saturday night at the Golden Rooster Awards, a prestigious biennial event honoring workers in China's film industry.

The film brought Peter Chan a Best Director award. Lead actor Huang Xiaoming shared the Best Actor award with Zhang Guoli from the war film "Back to 1942".

"American Dreams in China" was also named Best Feature Film, an award it shared with the film "The Story of Zhou Enlai".

"American Dreams in China" is loosely based on the startup stories of co-founders of the language-training school, New Oriental.

Song Jia garnered the Best Actress award for her portrayal of talented Chinese writer Xiao Hong in the film "Falling Flowers".

Actress-turned director Zhao Wei claimed the Best Directorial Debut award for her film "So Young". Accepting the award on stage, the first-time director was so excited she gave awards host Tu Jingwei a girl-on-girl kiss on the mouth.

The 29th Golden Rooster Awards were held in Wuhan of central China's Hubei Province.
