The acclaimed director from Taiwan who won an academy award for Brokeback Mountain was speaking in Taipei ahead of next week's 50th annual Golden Horse Awards, which are considered to be the Chinese version of the Oscars.
He said that the feat will be achieved without having to make any adjustments to cater for Western audiences:
"The Chinese-speaking people is probably four times more than the English-speaking people. So I think as long as we are influential in the Chinese speaking world, I think it will prevail. It will ripple out. I think in 10 years time, maybe our market will be bigger than the Hollywood market. So it just comes naturally."
Lee, who's also known for global smash hits such as "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" and "Life of Pi" will be serving as a juror at the awards which showcase cinema from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Chinese mainland and Singapore.
The star-studded event will take place on Nov. 23 in Taipei.
