Disney's "Frozen" was ranked the first at the North American box office, surpassing "Hunger Games: Catching Fire," winner of the tickets revenue for the previous two weeks.

The 3-D animated winter musical collected an estimated revenue of 31.6 million U.S. dollars during its second weekend in release and grossed 134.3 million dollars after 17 days in North American theaters.

As one of Disney's holiday films, "Frozen attracted thousands of moviegoers around Thanksgiving Day. First night moviegoers assigned the film a perfect average grade of "A+" from CinemaScore, a market research firm.

Internationally, "Frozen" has taken in 190.2 million dollars in total tickets revenue.

"Catching Fire" is still a powerful player this weekend with a 27 million dollars gross in North American, down by 64 percent from the prior weekend. The sequel has grossed 336.7 million dollars in North America and 673.4 million dollars globally since opening nearly three weeks ago.

"Out of the Furnace," the only new film playing nationwide in America this weekend, fared poorly. The film was directed by Scoot Cooper, starring Christian Bale, Woody Harrelson and Casey Affleck. This thriller film were screened at 2,101 locations but just raked in 5.3 million dollars in tickets sales, becoming one of the worst openings ever for a Bale film debuting in more than 2,000 theaters. The movie earned a "C+" from first-night moviegoers according to CinemaScore. Rotten Tomatoes only gave the film a 51 percent " fresh" score.

Rounding out the 10 most popular films in North America this weekend, as estimated by studios, were "Thor: The Dark World" (4.7 million dollars), "Delivery Man" (3.8 million), "Homefront" (3.4 million), "The Book Thief" (2.7 million), "The Best Man Holiday" ( 2.7 million), "Philomena" (2.3 million) and "Dallas Buyers Club" (1.5 million).
