The Italian embassy in China is showcasing the Apennine country's cinematography by presenting audiences in Beijing with the prize winning films in the latest Venice Film Festival.
The embassy's own film festival will last from Jan. 20 to 23 and is available to a limited audience with a particular interest in Italy's art films.
The Italian Cultural Institute in Beijing together with the Venice Film Festival authorities jointly chose three films -- "Sacro GRA," directed by Gianfranco Rosi, "L'intrepido," directed by Gianni Amelio and "Via Castellana Bandiera," a film by Emma Dante -- in a bid to let more Chinese viewers in on ordinary life in Italy.
Alberto Bradanini, the Italian ambassador to China, said these films portray the lives that have not benefited from the development of economy and modernization. "We look at them every day, but never actually see," said Bradanini.
The ambassador said he hoped the viewers could find their own "dream land" while watching the films, during which they "can enjoy the communication with themselves."
