Cui Jian's movie hits right note

Veteran Chinese rocker Cui Jian, whose directorial debut "Blue Sky Bones" has been nominated for Best Film in the Asian New Talent Award at the 17th Shanghai International Film Festival, met movie fans there yesterday.

Cui is known as the "godfather" of Chinese rock music and "Blue Sky Bones" has a musical theme, telling the story of a young rocker who also makes a living as a hacker.
Before a screening at the festival, Cui and his team greeted the audience. He said it was not difficult for a rocker to cross over to the world of directing movies.
"Rock is also telling a story, so making the film was natural to me," Cui said.
Award-winning Australian cinematographer Christopher Doyle, also known by the Chinese name Du Kefeng, worked with Cui on "Blue Sky Bones."
"Working with an old friend, the emotion is very important," Doyle said. "The music itself is also characters."
"Blue Sky Bones" had its global premiere at the 8th Rome Film Festival in 2013 and won the Special Jury Prize.
