"Transformers: Age of Extinction" is the first film of 2014 to earn over one billion U.S. dollars globally. The Hollywood Reporter says that the film's massive haul is in large thanks to its screening in China.
"Age of Extinction" earned over 300 million U.S. dollars in the Middle Kingdom to become the highest grossing movie of all time in the country.
It was the franchise's international turnout as a whole that led to the massive success of the fourth "Transformers" movie.
The film took in around over 760 million U.S. dollars overseas, while earning a franchise low of about 240 million U.S. dollars stateside.
