The global campaign aims to get 100,000 men and boys involved in the fight to achieve gender equality.
"The more I have spoken about feminism the more I have realized that fighting for women's rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop."
The campaign will officially begin Saturday when Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon activates an online map to track the progress of countries in promoting equality of the sexes.
Ban will be accompanied by Watson, a goodwill ambassador for the agency who played Hermione Granger in the "Harry Potter" films.
Other prominent supporters of the campaign include actors Matt Damon, Patrick Stewart, Antonio Banderas and Kiefer Sutherland, and South African Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
