Amid controversies about whether variety TV show can be adapted into movies, there are two "Dad, Where Are We Going?" movies this Spring Festival. A sequel to "Dad, Where Are We Going?" (based on its Season 2) and the film "Emperor's Holidays" -- an adaptation using the cast from Season 1, seeks to milk the concept popularized by television. Though "Dad, Where Are We Going?" is actually another episode of the TV show on big screen, "Emperor's Holidays" is a movie with story using the TV show cast. Whether they have power to attract audiences again with this self-billed "family comedy," remains to be seen. Last year's "Dad, Where Are We Going?" made an astonishing 699 million yuan (US$111.66 million) during the Spring Festival season.
