One of the most anticipated films of the year, "Avengers: Age of Ultron," premiered in Beijing on Sunday with thousands of fans waiting in line to see Iron Man and the Hulk.
Director Joss Whedon, "Iron Man" actor Robert Downey Jr. and "Hulk" actor Mark Ruffalo created huge buzz during this China trip to promote the movie.
Due to tight control by production studio Walt Disney Pictures and distributors, a China.org.cn reporter and fellow reporters were only allowed to watch 30 minutes of footage from the film on Sunday morning. The scenes shown included the opening battle involving the members of the Avengers and a magnificent fight between Iron-Man's Hulkbuster and the Hulk, which are the most exciting and incredible scenes on the big screen so far this year.
"My work is made much easier by the fact of all these movie stars," Joss Whedon commented about his direction of the star-studded cast at a press conference in Beijing later on Sunday. "Because those stars are very good at movies, and they come already knowing about what their characters are, what their relationships are, they come supporting each other, trying to make each other look cool, trying to make scenes better, making my job much easier all the time."
Robert Downey Jr. received the loudest cheers when he appeared. When asked by a fan who is the real boss of the Avengers team, the star joked, "Historically, Captain America (Chris Evans) is a little better in giving commands – it is just kind of like at home with my wife."
Mark Ruffalo also joked that if he wasn’t playing the role of the Hulk, he would love to try the role of Iron Man, because "he's so damn cool." Downey Jr. added he would love to try playing Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner) and that he greatly respected Renner's performance in "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
The trio were enthusiastically greeted on the red carpet by thousands of fans later that evening in a Beijing mall.
The film is set to debut in the United States on May 1 and in China on May 12.
