India's highest-grossing film ever, "PK," will be released in China in late May, hoping to cash in on China's hot summer film season.

Director Rajkumar Hirani, producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and lead actor Aamir Khan attended a press conference held in Beijing on Tuesday.

When asked about his hopes for the film’s box office results in China as Hollywood blockbuster "Avengers: Age of Ultron" stands poised to clearly dominate Chinese theaters, the producer said he certainly hoped for a good box office result, but "bringing Chinese and Indian people together and closer" is more important than hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.

The film, released in India and other countries in 2014, has become the highest-grossing Indian film of all time, grossing 6.5 billion Indian rupees (US$101 million) worldwide thus far. It was the first Indian film to gross more than 6 billion Indian rupees worldwide.

But "PK" has also caused some controversy as activists from pro-Hindu organizations Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal protested certain scenes in the film that they considered to be hurtful to the religious sentiments of the Hindu community. Aamir Khan said that every movie will encounter different voices, and they are open to them all. Khan said he was touched by the film's emotional scenes.

Khan also said that films are not just products designed for entertainment. Films everywhere in the world should inspire society, enlighten people's hearts and draw the people in a society closer together like a family, he asserted.

The actor was clearly heavier and more muscular than he appeared in "PK" and its promotional materials. He revealed he has been doing some body building for his next film, in which he will play a wrestler. Khan also added he is a super fan of Chinese kung fu star Jackie Chan.

"PK," a satirical science fiction comedy, tells the story of an alien who comes to Earth on a research mission, where he befriends a television journalist and questions religious dogmas and superstitions. The movie will be released in China on May 22.
