CCTV host Bi Fujian's comments, which went viral online, have been criticized and condemned as a serious violation of political disciplines by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.

The authority also demands that CCTV handles the issue seriously and imposes severe punishment.

Bi Fujian was recorded in a video at a private dinner in early April this year making disparaging remarks about Chairman Mao Zedong.

The video has caused heated debate online since it was first posted.

Bi has been suspended from his programs.

Bi Fujian, who has been working for CCTV since 1989, is a nationally recognized television host. He is best known for hosting the show "Star Boulevard".
