Tear-jerking romance "Go Away Mr. Tumor" ruled China's box office in the week ending Aug. 23, pulling in 225 million yuan (US$35 million).
The film, which centers on a woman's fight against cancer, has grossed 422 million yuan since opening on Aug. 13.
"Terminator Genisys", the fifth sequel in the series, came in at a respectable number two, making 168 million yuan in its opening week.
Domestic rom-com "Bride Wars" came in third, pulling in 151 million yuan after opening on Aug. 20, China Film News reported Wednesday.
The domestic live action animated film "Monster Hunt", the highest-grossing Chinese film of all time, was at number four. "Monster Hunt" took in 116 million yuan in the week, taking its total box office earnings to 23.3 billion yuan on Aug. 23 since its debut on on July 16.
Rounding out the top five was "Cities in Love", a domestic romance set in cities including Paris, France, and Prague, Czech Republic, with 50.7 million yuan.
