A press conference in Lancaster House announced the collaborative success of China Central Television (CCTV) and UK production company Lion Television in making a masterful documentary. "Confucius" aims to further educate Chinese audiences on Confucius but also bring Confucius to a wider international audience.

Coinciding with President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the UK, the cooperative work that has gone in to the documentary illustrates the increased co-operation between the UK and Chinese production industries and the education and entertainment that such works can provide globally.

Though Confucius' name is well known, people outside of China know little of the impact that this great sage had, not only in his own time over two-and-a-half thousand years ago, but in present day Chinese society too.

The documentary mixes interviews and thoroughly researched re-enactments to tell the tale of Confucius and his continued importance in Chinese society. Using interviews with world experts on Confucius and footage of average Chinese people living their lives in a society that has echoes of the original Confucian system, the CCTV and Lion Television work will bring a better understanding of the legendary figure to wider audiences.

Speaking as presenter at the prestigious event, well-known and respected former CCTV presenter and current Geneva Bureau Chief Xin Liu applauded the success of the China and UK companies in taking on and succeeding in the daunting task of showing the life and mind of a man who lived two-and-a-half millennia ago.

Of the collaborative work and successful completion of the documentary, director Hugo Macgregor said that it was an honor for a UK production company to be allowed the challenge of telling the tale of China’s great sage "whose philosophy is woven through the very fabric of Chinese culture and civilization".

General release dates for the documentary are yet to be confirmed.
