It's being reported the new box office hit in China-"Ip Man 3", which nabbed 440 million Yuan, or over 70 million U.S. dollars in its opening weekend may involve fudging its own ticket sale figures.

The film's distributor is being accused of bulk-buying discount tickets to its own film through various cinema chains across the country.

The theater chains then scheduled "ghost screenings" after midnight, with a ticket price reaching over 200 yuan.

China's media watchdog has reportedly begun investigating the case.

Oversight of ticket sales is not a new concern in China, as there have been wide-spread allegations of theatres padding their figures on behalf of movie companies.
