"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," directed by Gareth Edwards, tells a story set just before the plot of the 1977 "Star Wars" films and follows a group of rebels trying to steal plans to the Death Star.
The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm from George Lucas in 2012 at a valuation of US$4.06 billion, trying all out to further explore the "Star Wars" universe, which continues to excite generations of fans.
The spinoff, which is due to hit theaters on Dec. 16, 2016, is the first "Star Wars" film to be released by Disney since last December's hugely successful "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
"The Force Awakens," the seventh film in the original franchise, was one of the biggest blockbusters of all time. The film, directed by J.J. Abrams and starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Harrison Ford, made over US$2.06 billion worldwide, including America's highest ever domestic gross of US$935 million and a total of US$125 million from China.
