Supermodel Chiling Lin issued a statement on Tuesday, threatening to sue actor Edison Chen for his internet assault as Chen's father openly called Lin "fake."

Actor and singer Edison Chen launched an unexpected verbal attack on Taiwanese supermodel and actress Chiling Lin on China's microblog Sina Weibo on July 27. It later turned out that Chen was angry about Lin's alleged interference asking TV executives to exclude Chen's girlfriend Qin Shupei, another supermodel, from the reality TV fashion show "Hey Muse."

Lin issued a statement through her attorneys, officially responding to the controversy. She said she did receive an invitation to the TV show and decided to participate, but she never knew whether Qin was invited and she could not possibly ask anyone to exclude her.

She stressed that she does not personally know Chen and Qin, and was not informed about any other communication except the show's content and format.

The attorney said Chen's verbal attacks had insulted Lin's character, hurt her reputation and caused potential financial losses and that Lin reserved the right to sue him.

But Chen would not back down. He soon wrote on his Weibo account after Lin's statement, "Woooooo that was a close call. Everybody remember the things that happened in recent days and ask yourselves, 'why don't they just go straight and sue me? Because the only one who did wrong is ... (you know who). As for the internet mercenary posters, I don't care about those virtual persons, it is enough for anyone who has brains and understands reason to know the truth."

Chen's father also issued a statement in defence of him on the internet, "When I heard of the incident, I contacted my son and told him not to use that kind of language, but after I learned about the truth, I'm very angry. My son might have done things people don't like, but he is a genuine person, an honest man, a hard worker, and he speaks up for people he loves."

The father then pointed his finger at Lin, saying the supermodel robbed Qin's job and hired internet attackers while passing the buck to the TV show and agent.

"Anyone who believes in rules, principles, morality and justice should not support Ms. Chiling Lin," he said. "Don't pretend to be a wounded lamb and don't ask the internet mercenaries to confuse the issue. Qin is the real victim."

Chiling Lin always had a good reputation in the industry and is described as a "kind and loving person" by many friends and collaborators. That was why Chen's allegations were so shocking to so many.

Huang Yiqing, ex-husband of actress Huang Yi, added fuel to the flames by saying that Lin has very few real friends in the industry. "She pretends not to fight anyone, but behind your back she is very aggressive. She is a 'friend' of men and older women. But not a single one of her peers or supermodels is her friend."
