After it was released in Beijing, the play Mr Ma and Son, adapted from the novel of the same name by Lao She, is set to be staged in Shanghai next month

The all-male cast is led by Fang Xu as Mr Ma and Liu Xinran who plays his son.
The original novel draws largely from Lao She's own experience from when he taught Mandarin in London in the 1920s. It depicts what life was like for Chinese people in London in that era.
The popular novel was adapted into a TV drama in 1999. It was published in English in 2013.
