Tim Burton's new film has scene deleted for China release

Director Tim Burton's new film "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" has had to delete a violent scene for Chinese theaters.

It was revealed at a modest premiere on Wednesday that the scene of the monsters' "eyeballs feast" in the film was deleted, which was deemed as too frightening for Chinese audiences.
But the film still got rave reviews from audiences and critics after the advanced screening of the dark fantasy. Actress Qi Xi, praised the film's visual effects and Burton's distinctive otherworldly style.
"I've seen many of his classics online, now I have a chance to pay him back with film tickets," she said. Burton's previous works never got releases in China except "Alice in Wonderland" (2010).
Sirena Liu, Managing Director of 20th Century Fox China, gave her opinions on the film. "We can see the innocence and beauty from the eerie characters he created in his unique style. For 'Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children,' we can also read many metaphors, the declaration of personality, the view of love and some controversies. But this is still the one and only Tim Burton."
None of the cast and crew showed up at the premiere yesterday, but Burton had appeared in Beijing in early November to promote the film. He believed the film would be liked by both adults and kids.
The dark fantasy film is based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Ransom Riggs. "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children" stars Eva Green, Asa Butterfield, Chris O'Dowd, Allison Janney, Rupert Everett, Terence Stamp, Ella Purnell, Judi Dench and Samuel L. Jackson. The film has grossed over US$259 million worldwide thus far and will hit Chinese theaters on Dec. 2.
