Xu Yanan, 63, is a primary founder of the international communication translation and foreign affairs translation department at the TAC.

She served as the former translation director of the Foreign Ministry and the Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago. She was also the division director at United Nations department of Chinese Translation.

Xu also served as the deputy Secretary-General at the 4th TAC Council, and was engaged in the building of the Translation Committee for International Communication and devoted himself to Chinese-English translation.

When serving as the TAC secretary general (1998-2001), she participated in seminars on interpretation theory and practice and foreign affairs translation.

She received the Outstanding Contribution to Translation Industry Award at the Second National Translation Conference in Beijing on Dec. 6, 2012.
