Symposium on Xi Jinping book held at BEA

A symposium on "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China" was held at the China Culture Pavilion at BookExpo America (BEA) 2015 in New York City on May 28, 2015. Guests from international media, publishers and education circles attended the symposium and praised the book.

This book is a compilation of Xi Jinping's major works from Nov. 15, 2012 to June 13, 2014. It comprises 79 speeches, talks, interviews, instructions and correspondence in 18 chapters. Each item is accompanied by relevant notes about China's social system, history and culture for readers' reference.

At the symposium, Cui Tiankai, Chinese ambassador to the United States, said that the China-US relationship is the most important bilateral relationship and President Xi Jinping has depicted the prospects for this relationship in his book, and describes how the Chinese Dream represents all the beautiful dreams of the people of the world. Cui said he hoped that the book will help U.S. readers better understand China and eliminate their doubts and worries about China.

Wu Shangzhi, vice minister of China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT), said: "'Xi Jinping: The Governance of China' will strengthen communication and exchanges between China and the rest of the world, and help foreign readers to learn more about China . This book will provide readers with access to the dream and aims of the Chinese nation, the general trend of China's reform and development, and the relationship between China and the rest of the world."

According to Huang Youyi, former vice president of the China International Publishing Group, unprecedented innovations and breakthroughs have been made in the compilation, translation, publication and distribution of the book. The book will help American people from all walks of life to understand contemporary China , he said.

After its debut at Germany's Frankfurt Book Fair in October 2014, the book, published in many languages, has become increasingly popular and received enthusiastic responses from all over the world. A number of current and former political leaders and China experts have spoken highly of the book in reviews and commentaries. More than 400 articles from global media organs, including the Western mainstream media, have been published to introduce or comment on the book. With more than 4.5 million copies already sold worldwide so far, including 400,000 copies outside China, the book has set a new record for overseas sales of books written by Chinese leaders since the country's reform and opening up started three decades ago.
