Liu Zhenyun (刘震云) was born in May 1958, in Yanjin of Henan Province. He graduated from the Chinese Department at Peking University.

His novels include "Yellow flowers in hometown," "Social stories in hometown," "Flour and Flowers in hometown" (four volumes), "Full of Nonsense," "Mobile phone," "My name is Liu Yuejin," "One word overwhelms thousands of words," and "I am not Pan Jinlian."

His short stories include "Tapu," "Company of new recruit," "Workplace," "Scattered feathers" and "Recalling 1942."

"One word overwhelms thousands of words" won Liu the eighth Mao Dun Literature Prize.

Liu's works have been translated into English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Hungarian, Arabic and Vietnamese.
