Beijing's taxis, which first appeared in the late 1980s in the form of yellow mini-buses, serve mainly visitors to the city and expats. The fares were set at 10 yuan for 10 kilometers between 1984 and 1996. At that time, drivers wouldn't set off until the cabs were filled to capacity in terms of passengers. [File photo]
