Chinese shares opened higher on Tuesday, tracking overnight gains on the Wall Street.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.33 percent to open at 3,254.47. The Shenzhen Component Index edged up 0.05 percent at the opening to 13,539.83.
Overnight, the Wall Street started the new year on a strong note, boosted by a weaker U.S. dollar and rising oil prices.
The Dow Jones surged 1.51 percent, or 157.8 points, to 10,585.85. The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 1.6 percent, or 17.89 points, to 1,132.99 and the Nasdaq rose 1.73 percent to 2,308.42.
