Hyundai Motor Co. to recall YF Sonata sedans in the US, S Korea

South Korea's top automaker Hyundai Motor Co. said Wednesday it will recall the new version of its Sonata sedan in the United States and in South Korea due to a faulty door latch.

"Acting on a handful of customer complaints, Hyundai Motor will carry out a voluntary recall of its new Sonatas produced in (South) Korea and the United States to replace some front door latches," Hyundai Motor said in a statement.
The voluntary recall will affect some 46,000 YF Sonatas produced in South Korea until Dec. 6 last year and those produced at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama and sold to US customers until Feb. 16, which approximately amount to 1,300 units, the company said.
After notifying the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and South Korea's transportation ministry this week about the problem, the company will start recalling its popular model next month.
"Hyundai has full confidence in its early warning system which tracks customer complaints worldwide and analyzes patterns in reported problems," the company added.
