Five Chinese truck makers - Dongfeng, FAW, Sinotruck, Foton, Shaanxi Automobile - are ranked among the global top 15 heavy-truck suppliers, according to a report on the commercial vehicle industry released by AlixPartners, a global business advisory firm, on September 8.
Other truck makers in the list include Daimler, Tata and Volvo. Of them, Daimler seized first place with an annual production of 259,000 units, followed by Dongfeng and FAW, an annual production of 191,000 and 181,000, respectively.
According to AlixPartners, the high ranking of the Chinese companies can be attributed to the sharp rise in car sales in China and the declining sales in European and American markets.
Boosted by the 4-trillion-yuan ($590.93 billion) stimulus package introduced by the Chinese government amid the global financial crisis, China produced 909,000 medium and heavy trucks last year, accounting for 49 percent of the world's total, up 22 percent from 2008.
Globally, China was the only car market with a rise in sales. Some 640,000 heavy trucks were sold, an increase of 13 percent from 2008.
