Taiwan had 576,000 jobless citizens in August 2010, equivalent to an unemployment rate of 5.17%, decreasing 0.03pp on month and 0.96pp on year, according to statistics released by the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics (DGBAS) on September 23.
Taiwan's population aged 15 and over stood at 19.085 million in August, consisting of 11.146 million labor force and 7.939 million non-labor force individuals, with a labor participation rate of 58.4%, DGBAS indicated.
In August, Taiwan's unemployment rate was lower than 9.6% in the US, 8.1% in Canada, 7.8% in UK, 7.6% in Germany, 5.2% in Japan but higher than 4.2% in Hong Kong, 3.4% in South Korea and 2.2% in Singapore, DGBAS pointed out.
