More Chinese tourists will make more overseas trips this year, with total Chinese outbound departures expected to reach 65 million, up 13 percent year-on-year, said the China Tourism Authority in a report that released on Tuesday.

According to the Annual Report of China Outbound Tourism Development 2011, Chinese tourists' spendings on overseas travels could reach a new high of US$55 billion this year, up from the record high of US$48 billion in 2010.

The report attributes China's tourism boom to global and domestic economic recovery, a stronger yuan, easier tourism visa regime and supportive government policies.

Chinese travelers have been the world's fourth-biggest spenders since 2009, behind travelers from Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Shopping is one of the major reasons for Chinese to travel overseas, said the report. Currently, money spent on shopping accounts for 76 percent of the total spendings for mainland tourists in Hong Kong. This ratio is 63.1 percent for tourists in Macao and 50.16 percent for those in Taiwan.

China's tourism sector has been rocketing in recent years. Boston Consulting Group (BCG) said in a research in April that China's share in the global tourism market will reach 8 percent by 2013, surpassing Japan as the world's second largest tourism market.
